Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, a debut novel from Ransom Riggs, follows Jacob, a seventeen year old boy, who is enchanted by stories told to him by his Grandfather. When his Grandfather is killed by a monster, Jacob sets of on an adventure to prove that his childhood stories were in fact much more than just the tales of a crazy old man. Jacob sets of to an island off the coast of Wales where he comes across the ruins of an old house obviously long since abandoned shattering his hopes of finding the orphanage so often described to him by his Grandfather. When Jacob is interrupted whilst meandering through the ruins of the old orphanage he is interrupted by a couple of children. Running after them he follows them through a tunnel and  what he encounters on the other side has him is dumbfounded.

I absolutely loved the fact that there were pictures that joined in so well with the story line and it made for quite an interesting read.  Envisioning what I had in my head in relation to the photos was a nice quirk with this novel, helping break it up here and there.

When Grandfather dies Jacob sees something peculiar giving credit to the stories his Grandfather once told him that he was beginning to think were utter nonsense until that fateful night that altered Jacob's life trajectory.

I have seen so many negative reviews relating to this novel and I can't fathom why. I was enticed by the storyline, much more than the movie. I watched the movie and I didn't like it at all. I thought it was dull, boring and nothing like the magical adventurous tale I have concocted in my head whilst reading the novel.

I loved that the photos tied in so seamlessly with the storyline of the novel. I loved that you would reading about something so weird and wonderful, imagining it in you head only to turn the page and see a real life photo depicting exactly what you had just read.
